WINEGROWERS OF DRY CREEK VALLEY-ZINTOPIA HARVEST EVENT 9.19.09
Healdsburg, CA – Dry Creek Valley makes some of California’s premier Zinfandels and is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of century-old Zinfandel vines. The Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley will showcase this signature varietal at ZinTopia, their inaugural consumer wine tasting, educational event and harvest celebration slated for Saturday, September 19 at the Lake Sonoma Warm Springs Recreation Area in Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County. ZinTopia participants will have the opportunity to taste more than 50 wines from Dry Creek Valley wineries and meet dozens of winemakers and grape growers from the small, multi-generational wineries and vineyards of Dry Creek Valley.
In addition to a comprehensive tasting of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels, as well as Sauvignon Blancs and uncommon varietals, ZinTopia will offer an educational component called Zin-Smart. Zin-Smart will give guests an overview of Dry Creek Valley’s terroir along with a behind-the-scenes glimpse of harvest that includes a lively demonstration grape stomp. Set under the sweeping arches of a traditional open-air festival tent surrounded by Dry Creek Valley’s dramatic landscape, ZinTopia will tempt guests with a variety of distinctive culinary creations from Park Avenue Catering, Sonoma County’s only green-certified caterer. Live blues music and a pastoral market featuring local artisan products such as olive oils, jams and honey, fresh produce, locally made sweets, hand-made soaps and crafts, and valley grown wild flowers round out the visitor experience.
“ZinTopia will give consumers an exclusive opportunity to taste over 50 Dry Creek Valley wines and interact with the owners and winemakers, all in one setting,” said Cheryl Beeson, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley. “All of the participating wineries are small, family-owned enterprises, so this is a unique chance for consumers to visit with them and taste these outstanding wines.”
Dry Creek Valley wineries and winegrape growers continue to operate as boutique, multi-generational family-owned establishments with small-to-medium productions. Land stewardship is an integral part of the winegrower’s multi-generational perspective. A combined effort to conserve Dry Creek Valley’s natural resource creates an especially strong community of winegrape growers and wineries.
ZinTopia will take place from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Lake Sonoma, Warm Springs Recreation Area, 3333 Skaggs Spring Road. It is located at the northern end of scenic Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. Tickets are $75 and are available at www.wdcv.com.
