Mr. Harper N. Wood and Mr. Aubrey Chapman formed and incorporated Associated Operations, Inc. dba Harper Wood Electric Co. on January 11, 1956. Our first endeavor into 'Show' business began with the Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition (as it was called in those days) in the Sam Houston Coliseum. From there, we began doing small car shows and boat shows in the Sam Houston Coliseum, and went on to be the major electrical provider at the Albert Thomas Convention Center. We were pioneers of the trade show and convention industry in Houston and have grown with the industry from its beginning into the present.
Harper Wood Electric Co. has been the exclusive electrical contractor for the Reliant Park (Astrodome/Astrohall Complex) since its opening in 1966. It is there that we have proudly serviced such prestigious accounts as the Offshore Technology Conference, the National Association of Homebuilders, Instrument Society of America, and the 1992 Republican National Convention, as well as thousands of publics shows, both large and small. We have also been the official electrical contractor for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for its duration at the Reliant Park (Astrodome/Astrohall complex).
In Houston, we have a full service commercial electrical department. Our scope in the department ranges from new construction of projects in excess of two million dollars, plus a 24 hour service department and estimating staff. We service many businesses, hospitals, banks, restaurants, and the local CBS affiliate KHOU channel 11. This can be a plus for the convention industry, as we have on hand the equipment, to handle any emergency situation that may arise and can remedy most problems with minimal time loss.
