Nestled in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic, midway between New York, NY and Washington, DC along the I-95 corridor and only 30 minutes from Center City Philadelphia, the Greater Wilmington and Brandywine Valley area offers a large variety of venues for visitors to experience, tax-free.

Easily accessible from I-95, the New Jersey Turnpike, Amtrak (70 trains daily) and the Philadelphia International Airport (20 minutes), Greater Wilmington boasts more than 6,000 guest rooms and 300 meeting rooms. In addition to world-famous museums and attractions, professional theatres, four-star restaurants and tax-free shopping, attendees can stroll along the 1.2-mile picturesque Riverwalk or ride a water taxi to outlet stores, nightclubs and restaurants. Wilmington, DE offers the convenience of big city amenities delivered with hometown charm.

In conjunction with the revitalization of Wilmington’s Riverfront, the Chase Center on the Riverfront completed a $7 million dollar renovation. With the addition of the 31,900 sq. ft. exhibit hall and lobby, 266-seat auditorium and 5,200 sq. ft. Christina Room, the Chase Center on the Riverfront becomes the largest meeting venue in the area with 87,000+ sq. ft. of meeting space, accommodating up to 2,100 attendees.

Equally impressive is the completion of the Delaware Art Museum’s $31 million makeover. Home to more than 12,000 world-renowned works of American and English art; it also has added a significant amount of space specifically designed for hosting larger national and international traveling exhibitions and meetings. Other area museums that recently have completed renovations and should be considered as unique meeting venues are the Brandywine River Museum - $25 million renovation and home to three generations of Wyeth family paintings; Delaware Museum of Natural History - $5 million renovation that features a 35 ft. long giant squid suspended from the ceiling; and the Rockwood Mansion Park - $16 million renovation and former home of Joseph Shipley, who was a banker, merchant and prominent Wilmington figure in the middle 1800s. Part of the Rockwood Mansion Park renovation resulted in the conversion of an old barn to a state-of-the-art Visitor Center that features fantastic multi-purpose and breakout rooms on 72 lovely acres, making it a perfect choice for retreat meetings.

Celebrating 82 annual events and festivals - including the August Quarterly, the nation’s oldest black festival dating back to 1814; Day in Old New Castle, the nation’s oldest Home and Garden tour founded in 1910; Greek, Italian, Polish and Jazz Festivals, just to name a few – expresses and embraces the diversity that defines the area.

To unlock all that this tax-free destination has to offer, the Greater Wilmington (DE) Convention and Visitors Bureau holds the key. With one call or e-mail, meeting planners can gather information and utilize services to help create a memorable event.
