The Berlin Convention Office was established in July 2001. Its main task is to promote Berlin, in an impartial manner in Germany and abroad, both as a meeting and convention location and as an incentive destination.

In February 2002 the 18 leading Berlin service providers for conferences, congresses and incentives joined forces and set up Berlin Preferred Agencies.

In cooperation with the Berlin Convention Office, the common goal of the agencies is to present and market the city as a modern and attractive destination for congresses and events. All member agencies of the association offer a full service which not only involves the right hotel and the smooth running of the congress. They will also draw up an accompanying culinary and cultural programme for your event in an imaginative and original way.

Berlin has an outstanding range of accommodation with nearly 600 hotels – affording guests the largest choice of modern hotels in Europe. Nearly all international hotel groups have already opened hotels here or plan to do so in the near future. At present, Berlin has more than 86,500 hotel beds.

The ICC Berlin is never far. There is a large choice of hotels in each category all around Kurfürstendamm in the western city centre. The ICC Berlin can be easily reached within 5-15 minutes by taxi or public transport. Transfer time to the hotels in the eastern part of the city is max. 20-30 minutes. From the Maritim Hotel it is only a short walk to Potsdamer Platz where there are four 5-star hotels. Other hotels located in the city centres east and west can be reached within 5-15 minutes. In addition to the 1,100 rooms in the Estrel Hotel & Convention Centre, delegates can be accommodated in the city centre east which is 10-20 minutes away.

Connection:

Schönefeld Airport, the former central airport of the GDR is being developed into Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI. With the start of the winter 2011 timetable it will cater for around 20 million passengers. The downtown airports in Tegel and Tempelhof will then be closed. With BBI, the capital city region will offer business travellers, tourists and companies a high-tech airport with great connections, international flights, its own freeway connection and an ICE train station directly underneath the terminal. The Airport Express will take 17 minutes for the 20-kilometer long journey to downtown Berlin.

Flight connection from international destinations:

Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines each offer a daily direct flight to New York. Qatar Airways operates flights from Berlin to Doha on the Arabian Gulf four times a week. From there, there are excellent onward connections to the growth markets in East Asia and India. Other international destinations can be reached via the main German hubs Frankfurt/Main and Munich. There are several flights every hour from Berlin to both cities. Berlin is served by more budget airlines than any other European airport: Air Berlin, Ryanair, Virgin Express, easyJet, Germanwings, Hapag-Lloyd Express, InterSky, etc.

6 ferries. Suburban and underground trains begin operating at about 4 a.m. and continue running until about 30 minutes after midnight. Many buses, some underground trains and the main suburban railway lines offer a night service. No other European metropolis has more underground lines which operate through the night at weekends and on the eve of public holidays.

Cultural events
Berlin’s theatre and music scene is of the highest calibre. The city has a long tradition as a theatre metropolis and is justly proud that it can present such a diverse range of productions today. More than 150 theatres, 3 first-class opera houses, 8 major symphony orchestras, 2 major musical theatres, variety theatres as well as countless cabarets provide entertainment to suit every possible taste.

Museums and exhibitions
Berlin is a city of museums. With about 175 museums and more than 300 galleries the capital boasts a highly impressive range of unique, internationally renowned collections. Exhibits from all over the world like the Pergamon Altar, old and young masterpieces, items dating back to prehistoric times – every imaginable style and period in history can be found in Berlin’s unique and constantly developing museum landscape. Germany’s largest cultural investment project, the Berlin Museum Island, is gradually being renovated and extended and will be completed by 2010. The five museums on Museum Island were recently added to the World Cultural Heritage List.

Restaurants & nightlife
From a quick snack to dinner at a gourmet restaurant, international cuisine, theme restaurants, beer gardens and regional cooking – Berlin’s 7,000 restaurants and eateries cater for every taste, any occasion, any time of the day or night. There are virtually no licensing hours in Berlin to hinder the visitor from enjoying this multicultural mix to the fullest.

Berlin’s nightlife is fast-paced and has something for everyone. Alongside the established in-clubs, new discotheques, clubs, lounges and cocktail bars of all kinds open every month. Whether the music is house, salsa or tango, whether the beat is swing or techno, the bold and brash ambience and Berlin’s multicultural flair reflect the powerful energy of Germany’s capital city.
