While California may seem like the logical state for grooming celebrities interested in transitioning into politics, Minnesota not only has an overabundance of homegrown names of the page, stage, screen, field, and dais (F. Scott Fitzgerald, Anne Bancroft, Prince, the Coen brothers, Bob Dylan, Garrison Keillor, and far too many more to name), but their present governor is former pro wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura. Of course, if cocktail party tidbits are indeed your forte, the state is chock full of even more Trivial Pursuit-worthy factoids. For instance, Minnesota isn't just the spawning ground for a veritable constellation of stars; it's also the birthplace of the most romanticized, written-about, and filmed rivers in the country, the Mississippi. In fact, Lake Itasca Park is the only spot of the 2,552 miles of the Mighty Miss that you can cross without the assistance of a bridge or boat. Minnesota is also the place where Scotch Tape, Rollerblades, Wheaties, Bisquick, the Bundt pan, the stapler, the Better Business Bureau, Green Giant vegetables, and Spam got their start. (There's even a museum dedicated to the meat product in Austin, MN.) Want to gawk at the world's largest ball of twine? The 17,400-pound behemoth is hunkered down in the city of Darwin.
Maybe all this inventing went on during the harsh winter months, with an average January temperature of 20 degrees Fahrenheit and a constant abundance of snow from December to March. Case in point: Another great Minnesota invention? The snowmobile, which just goes to show that necessity, is indeed the mother of it. Outdoor activities of all seasons are a great reason to visit, though. Despite the famed Mall of America in Bloomington, to truly be feelin' Minnesota, you've got to head outdoors and experience its big-sky glory. From cross-country skiing in the silent, stunning northern woods along the Gunflint Trail along Lake Superior to the 205-mile Superior Hiking Trail filled with wild strawberries and wilder animals, you'd be remiss if a visit didn't allow time to gape at the unspoiled surroundings.

Minnesota tourism flourishes year-round because of the state’s four distinct seasons. There are always things to do, in every kind of weather, making it an ideal destination in every season. The Twin Cities of St Paul and Minneapolis are the most popular areas for those on Minnesota vacations. The abundance of attractions and activities in the Twin Cities area alone can easily fill up fun-filled Minnesota vacations quickly! The area is in the southwest region of the state where winters are still cold but not quite as harsh as they can be along the northern border.

The Twin Cities area is very close to Bloomington where the massive Mall of America enjoys abundant Minnesota tourism. When visiting you will embark on one of the most exciting shopping trips you’ve ever experienced, where four levels of retail space, restaurants and entertainment facilities completely enthrall visitors! Inside the behemoth mall is every kids dream, the Park Mall of America, where there is never a lack of things to do for kids. With childcare services to boot, you can shop to your heart’s content while your kids play away.

When Minnesota travel takes you to the Twin Cities there are a few things you won’t want to miss. Music-lovers need to know that First Avenue is a must-see during Minnesota travel! With history dating back to the disco days of the 1970s, thousands of big names in music have played and continue to perform for some of the best nightlife in the city. Sports fans should take in a game at the Metrodome, home to the Minnesota Twin’s and the Minnesota Vikings. Head to Minnehaha Falls to relax in the gorgeous green city space or head over to Lake Calhoun and do some kayaking or canoeing for an afternoon. If you have little ones don’t miss the Minnesota State Fair in the summer and make sure to tour Minnesota Zoo exhibits.

Outdoor enthusiasts on Minnesota vacations should definitely take time out for some wilderness adventures. Tour Minnesota backcountry and explore some of the most scenic areas in the state where Minnesota tourism explodes each year in the warmer months. Both Voyageurs National Park and Lake Vermillion are fine examples of why Minnesota tourism attracts so many adventure seekers. Go canoeing or kayaking, take long hikes across pristine terrain or engage in some of the best fishing you’ve ever experienced. Minnesota travel in the northern areas affords a chance to visit outlying cities such as Two Harbors and Bemidji.

Abundant trails in both areas afford terrific mountain biking opportunities, both technical and easy. When in Minnesota travel to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, also perfect for every kind of water based activity you can imagine. Camping under the stars reminds you of how remote and isolated you are and how good it feels! Tour Minnesota national parks and forests and experience wildlife sightings you may have never dreamt were possible! Moose, bears, coyotes, otters, beavers and an abundance of birds live all around the massive and secluded northern region.

Some other popular activities during Minnesota vacations include golf and houseboat adventures. Hundreds of fantastic golf courses can be found in every corner of the state and everywhere in between. Houseboat rentals are great for journeys down the Mississippi River or for exploring more remote waterways. RVing is popular all across the nation. Tour Minnesota and find numerous RV parks with a myriad of amenities suitable for your needs.

Visit Shakopee and absorb some early state history among ancient burial grounds or tour Minnesota north of Minneapolis and visit the quaint settlements of St Cloud and Little Falls.

South of Minneapolis, you can take a drive to Austin and neighboring Rochester. Enjoy plenty of recreation around the Detroit Lakes during Minnesota vacations for a fun family holiday. During a tour of Minnesota anything is possible. Touted as one of the most beautiful and diverse states in the USA, you’ll find plenty of reasons for a vacation in the area!
